This Web site is devoted to the history and genealogy of the Violette (Violett, Violet, Vilit) family, which had its origins in the Northern Neck of Virginia around 1700. Information on this site is organized into two main sections, the Genealogy section and the Library. The Genealogy section is actually a fully-fledged interactive genealogy program, rather than a collection of static Web pages. This means you can organize the output to suit your own interests - screen and printed reports are organized "on-the-fly". You can even download the GEDCOM or just a part of it that you need for your own work - take a look at the Family Tree Clippings Cart feature. Because it is interactive, getting information at first might seem difficult, but my best advice is to just explore the functions - start pushing buttons and see what happens- you can't hurt anything! And of course email me if you have questions. Please note that if you want access to some functions you need to register - but it is quick and easy. The Library section contains several subsections: the narrative of the history of the family I am writing (and please read the Introduction in this section if you want more background on the family); collections of Documents and Images. Any of these library holdings can be downloaded easily. Other sections of this Web site include Web Links which is of course a categorized section of Web site Links, the Forum and Guestbook, and a News Feed from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter, which contains a lot of very interesting and useful information. Finally, thanks to all of you have contributed since this site first went "live" - it has been a huge help in developing this project. - Martin Violette |
